The Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe's first-year results (Bennett, Spergel et al., 2003) delivered a dramatic jump in cosmological precision over COBE, pinning down the universe's age, composition (dark energy/dark matter/baryon fractions), and geometry to a few percent. Landmark paper here is the "Determination of Cosmological Parameters" companion; "Preliminary Maps and Basic Results" is the other widely-cited paper from the same release.
