Graphene Dirac-Fermion Transport Physics

PhysicsCondensed Matter / Materials PhysicsEmpirical Resultfoundational

Discovery that charge carriers in graphene behave as massless relativistic Dirac fermions, reported independently and essentially simultaneously in 2005 by Novoselov et al. (Nature 438, 197, primary landmark here) and Zhang et al. (Nature 438, 201, OpenAlex W2118492507) -- a genuinely distinct physical finding from graphene's isolation the year before, not a restatement of it.
